Describe & Guess
One clue. A whole lot of aha.

One word. Two teams. Describe it, guess it, laugh about it. Pick classic clues or forbidden words, and let your phones keep score.

01

Make two teams

4–12 friends join one room on their own connected phones. Each team needs at least 2 players. Switch teams in the lobby, or let the host arrange them. No account or download; designed for in-person gatherings.

02

Describer, guessers and referee

One team guesses while one teammate describes. A player from the other team referees. Only the describer and referee receive the current word; hosting grants no extra access. Guess out loud. Describers and referees rotate.

03

Get ready, then start the clock

Both the describer and referee confirm readiness. The timer starts once both and at least one guesser are online. Choose 60 or 90 seconds, and 1, 2 or 3 turns per team. The word appears only after the timer starts and is hidden by default.

04

Classic clues and forbidden words

Do not say the target or obvious parts of it, translate it, spell it, or use sound-alike clues to give it away. Forbidden-word mode also bans the three words on the card. Descriptions and gestures are welcome. The referee judges in person; the game does not record audio.

05

Correct, skip or foul

The opposing referee confirms a correct guess for 1 point and a new word. Either the describer or referee may skip for 0 points. In forbidden-word mode, the referee marks a foul for 0 points and a new word. No negative points. An unfinished word scores nothing when time runs out.

06

Scores and another game

Completed words and decisions are revealed after each turn. The host continues. After equal turns, the higher score wins; equal scores are a draw. Everyone on the winning team earns a win. Return to the lobby to change teams or settings and play again.

07

Disconnects pause the timer

Refresh or reconnect to return to your seat. The timer pauses if the describer, referee, or last online guesser disconnects, and resumes with the remaining time when they return. The host can also swap in an online teammate for a dropped describer, or an online opponent for a dropped referee. A restart pauses an unexpired turn; an expired turn is settled. The host may end a turn early, keeping its points, or end the whole game without awarding wins.

08

Shared screen, sound and new phones

With a TV, projector or computer, the host can open “Shared screen” from the menu. It shows both scores, the describer and referee, the clock and words already played, never the word in play. Phones then default to your role, word card and buttons, with the full view a tap away; without a screen, every phone shows everything and can play a whole game. The screen only watches and never counts as an online guesser. Sound effects and background music are on by default and adjustable in the menu; music plays only on the screen or the host’s phone. To switch phones, choose “Change device” on the old one and use the one-time code within 10 minutes. If the old phone is gone, join the same room with the same name to get your seat back.

09

Rooms and privacy

A new tab takes over the same seat. An online player becomes host after the host is offline for 30 seconds. Seats cannot join, leave or be removed during a game. Empty rooms are deleted immediately; inactive rooms expire after 24 hours. Browsers store a nickname, language and reconnect credential; the server stores temporary rooms and credential hashes, including hashes of screen and transfer codes. No recording, accounts, ads, payments or paid AI.

Describe & Guess: team icebreakers and forbidden words

Make two teams of 4–12 for an indoor team activity, a work icebreaker or a party. Start with everyday words and classic clues, then try clues without the forbidden words. Rotate through describing, guessing and refereeing.

How do we play, and how many people do we need?

Bring 4–12 people, with at least 2 on each team. One player gives clues, teammates guess aloud and the opposing referee confirms answers. Phones handle timers and scores. Start with classic clues, then try forbidden words.

Do we need cards for forbidden-word mode?

The website supplies English and Chinese word cards and forbidden words. Each person joins on a connected phone. Only the clue giver and opposing referee see the word; teammates guess aloud. No physical props, account or download.

Is this a drawing game?

Give spoken clues or gestures and guess words together. Phones provide word cards, timers and scores. For remote gatherings, use your own voice call alongside the game.

Can we put the game on a TV or projector?

Yes. The host opens “Shared screen” in the phone menu and opens the link on a TV, projector or computer browser. It shows both scores, the clock, who describes and who referees, and words already played, never the word in play, while phones keep just your role and buttons. You can always play without one.

What if a phone dies mid-game?

If the describer, referee or last guesser drops out, the clock pauses. Reopen the page in the same browser to get your seat back. To switch phones, choose “Change device” on the old one, then scan the code or enter it on the new phone. If the old phone is gone, join the same room with the same name on the new one.
